Straight steering, even tyre wear, safer handling

If your car pulls to one side, your steering wheel sits off-centre, or your tyres are wearing unevenly, there's a good chance your wheel alignment is out. It's one of those things that happens gradually - you hit a pothole on Tamaki Drive, clip a kerb in a car park, or the suspension settles over time - and before you know it, your tyres are wearing on one edge and the car doesn't feel quite right.

Tyre wear patterns can actually tell you a lot about what's going on: excessive wear on the inner edge usually means too much negative camber, wear on the outer edge points to too much positive camber, and a feathered wear pattern across the tread is a classic sign of toe misalignment. Correct alignment means your wheels are pointed in exactly the right direction according to manufacturer specifications, which keeps your vehicle tracking straight, maximises tyre life, and gives you predictable, safe handling. Different vehicles have different alignment needs - Subaru models with boxer engines are well known for rear toe adjustment issues, BMW vehicles often require a thrust angle alignment to keep the rear axle tracking true, and Toyota and Honda models have tight factory specs that need to be matched precisely.

If you're running a 4WD or AWD vehicle, a full four-wheel alignment is essential because all four corners work together to keep the drivetrain happy. Lowered or modified vehicles need particular attention too, as aftermarket suspension changes the geometry and often requires adjustable components and custom alignment settings to get the angles right. At Eastern Bays Automotive in Glen Innes, we use precision alignment equipment to measure and adjust all the key angles - camber, caster, and toe - on everything from a Honda Jazz to a BMW X5.

What We Cover

  • Toe angle measurement and adjustment - the most common alignment issue
  • Camber angle measurement and adjustment - inward or outward wheel tilt
  • Caster angle measurement - steering axis inclination for stability
  • Steering wheel centre position check and correction
  • Tyre wear pattern analysis to identify alignment-related wear
  • Suspension component inspection - worn parts affect alignment accuracy
  • Steering system play and condition check
  • Ride height measurement - sagging springs affect alignment angles
  • Subaru rear toe adjustment - a common issue on boxer-engine models
  • BMW thrust angle alignment to keep the rear axle tracking correctly
  • Toyota and Honda factory specification matching for precise alignment
  • 4WD/AWD all-four-wheel alignment to protect drivetrain components
  • Lowered and modified vehicle geometry with custom alignment settings
  • Road test to verify tracking and handling after adjustment
  • Before and after alignment printout showing all measurements

How It Works

Book in by phone or online, and let us know if you've noticed any specific symptoms like pulling or uneven wear. When you bring the vehicle in to our Glen Innes workshop, we start with a visual suspension check to make sure everything is sound enough to hold an alignment.

Then we mount the alignment sensors, take initial measurements, and adjust the toe, camber, and caster to the correct factory settings. We finish with a road test to confirm the vehicle tracks straight and the steering wheel is centred. The whole process typically takes 45 minutes to an hour.

You'll receive a printout showing all the measurements before and after.

Pricing Guide

We offer both front-wheel and full four-wheel alignment options. A four-wheel alignment is recommended for most modern vehicles and essential for anything with independent rear suspension.

If we find worn suspension components that need replacing before the alignment can be done properly, we'll quote those separately - we'd rather be upfront than charge you for an alignment that won't last. Many of our customers combine alignment with new tyre fitting, which makes sense since fresh tyres on a misaligned car will wear unevenly from day one. Contact us for current pricing.

Why Choose Eastern Bays

We don't just plug numbers into a machine and call it done. Before we align your vehicle, we inspect the suspension and steering components, because aligning a car with worn ball joints or tired bushings is a waste of your money - the alignment won't hold.

If we find worn parts, we'll let you know and recommend replacing them first. Our alignment equipment measures all angles to sub-degree accuracy, and we adjust to manufacturer specifications for your specific make and model. Whether you drive a Subaru Legacy, a Toyota RAV4, a Mazda 3, or a Mercedes C-Class, we have the specifications and the equipment to get it right.

Every alignment comes with a printed before-and-after report so you can see the exact measurements and what was adjusted - no guesswork, just clear results on paper. We also have experience with vehicles that sit outside the standard range, including lowered cars, lifted 4x4s, and performance vehicles that need custom alignment settings dialled in carefully.

While you're here, we can also take care of new tyres, brake check and full service - everything under one roof at our Glen Innes workshop.
