Coolant does more than keep your engine from overheating - it also prevents internal corrosion, protects against freezing in colder conditions, and lubricates the water pump. Over time, the chemical inhibitors in coolant break down and contaminants build up, reducing its ability to protect your engine.
A flush clears out the old fluid and replaces it with fresh coolant that actually does its job properly. This is especially important in Auckland's climate, where engines regularly cycle between cold starts and operating temperature. Different vehicle manufacturers specify different coolant types - using the wrong one can cause corrosion, gasket damage, or blockages.
At our Glen Innes workshop, we always use the correct specification for your vehicle.
What We Cover
- Complete cooling system flush and clean
- Coolant replacement with correct manufacturer specification
- Radiator inspection for leaks, damage, and blockages
- Radiator hose and heater hose inspection
- Thermostat operation check
- Water pump inspection for leaks and bearing wear
- Heater core operation and flow check
- Pressure testing for hidden leaks
- Coolant expansion tank condition check
- Radiator cap pressure test
- Cooling fan operation and thermoswitch check
- Coolant concentration and pH testing
How It Works
We start by draining the old coolant and inspecting it - the colour and condition tell us a lot about the health of your cooling system. We then flush the system with clean water to remove deposits and old coolant residue.
Fresh coolant of the correct specification is mixed to the right concentration and filled, and the system is bled of air pockets. We run the engine to operating temperature, check for leaks, verify the thermostat opens correctly, and confirm the heater is working. The whole process typically takes about an hour.
Pricing Guide
Coolant flush pricing varies depending on the coolant type required and the size of the cooling system. Vehicles requiring specific long-life or OEM-specification coolants may be towards the higher end.
If we find issues during the flush - such as a leaking hose, a weeping water pump, or a faulty thermostat - we'll quote those repairs separately. We dispose of old coolant responsibly, as it's an environmental hazard that shouldn't go down the drain. Contact us for a quote.
Why Choose Eastern Bays
We use the correct coolant specification for your vehicle - this matters more than most people realise. Mixing incompatible coolant types can form gel-like deposits that block radiator passages and heater cores, leading to overheating and expensive damage.
We stock multiple coolant types to cover the range of vehicles we service, from the pink long-life coolant used in most Toyota and Honda vehicles to the blue and green coolants specified by European manufacturers. We also thoroughly inspect the whole cooling system while we're at it, checking hoses, the radiator, water pump, and thermostat, to catch any potential issues before they leave you stranded on the side of the motorway.
While you're here, we can also take care of full service, cam belt replacement and battery check - everything under one roof at our Glen Innes workshop.
